The final results of Friday’s presidential runoff election in Iran were announced by the country's election headquarters after the completion of the vote count. Masoud Pezeshkian has been elected as the new president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, defeating Saeed Jalili.
The final vote count, released early Saturday, showed Pezeshkian with 16,384,403 votes, while Jalili received 13,538,179 votes, resulting in a victory margin of over two million votes.
Election headquarters issued updates throughout the night, with the final announcement at 6:45 AM (03:15 GMT). Mohsen Eslami, spokesperson for Iran's election headquarters under the interior ministry, confirmed Pezeshkian's win over Jalili.
The election was closely contested, with Pezeshkian, a seasoned lawmaker and former health minister, prevailing against Jalili, a former lead nuclear negotiator and head of Iran's top security body.
